Referring a Patient

To refer a patient for evaluation contact the Referral Coordinator collect at: (301) 402-1391.

The Referral Coordinator will discuss potential eligibility for protocol enrollment and will send a referral information form to the primary/referring physician. When the completed referral information form is returned with the medical information requested, it will be reviewed to determine eligibility for treatment under a clinical protocol, and the Referral Coordinator will arrange a date for evaluation.

A clinical social worker will then contact the family to provide additional information and assistance with travel and lodging.

After enrollment, follow-up evaluations are protocol determined, but are generally required monthly for the first 6 months. Costs of all lodging at the The Childrens Inn at NIH and protocol related medical care and treatment are covered by the National Cancer Institute. Travel is not provided for the initial evaluation; however, travel is provided for all subsequent protocol related evaluations.
