SAFETY PROGRAM OVERVIEW AND TRAINING

UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS & TUBERCULOSIS TRAINING

Overview : This training provides employees with a review of safe work practices they need to follow to minimize occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens which includes:

  • OSHA Occupational Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens (29 CFR Part 1910.1030)

  • Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan

  • TB Exposure Control Plan

Audience & Policy: All employees performing clinical service have the potential for contact or occupational exposure with blood, body fluids, or other potentially infectious materials and are required to complete this training.

Frequency: Training is required at the time of initial assignment, and annually thereafter.

Training: The training program requires approximately 30 to 60 minutes.

· To take the test, please go to the internet link to the training materials and test.

· After faxing the test to HES, please provide the original copy to your Safety Officer, so they can file it in their safety documentation notebook and forward the completion dates to Administrative Lab Manager to update the Master Training Log.

· The Safety Officer should file the documentation in their Section and forward completion dates to the Administrative Lab Manager.

· Any employee with direct patient care responsibilities, people who handle specimens, unfixed tissue or work with animals must complete this training. For staff who are strictly research lab and aren't in patient care areas, they can also attend the UP training given by ORS.
