Section Seven: Extramural Electives
Request for outside electives must be submitted and approved at least 1 month prior to start of the rotation (Appendix A2). Forms are available through Susan Hostler. After completing an elective outside NIH please complete the Evaluation Form (Appendix A3) available in Dr. Jaffe's office in room 2B42. Your experiences will help other residents in choosing their electives. You may also review the forms on file before selecting an elective.
The Laboratory of Pathology will provide financial assistance for one rotation outside the Washington DC metropolitan area for each resident in the second and third year of training. The Arthur Purdy Stout Society also provides stipends to support off-site electives. See Dr. Jaffe for application materials and further information. Application deadlines are generally June 15, prior to following academic year. An outside pathology course may be taken in lieu of an outside elective month.
