Patient Referrals

Patients with newly diagnosed or recurrent primary tumors of the central nervous system (CNS); patients with systemic cancers that have metastasized to the CNS; or patients without a formal diagnosis but with radiographic findings concerning a tumor of the CNS are candidates for a patient consultation.

When a patient is referred to our brain tumor clinic, our clinical staff will work to form an expert care team that includes:

  • Access to cutting-edge and novel drug-based, biological and immunological therapies and procedures that are often not available elsewhere

  • Potential for patient-specific therapy based on the genomic characteristics of the patient’s individual tumor

  • Use of state-of-the-art neurosurgery and radiation therapy

  • Expert evaluations, examinations, tests, and state-of-the-art imaging (MRI and PET scans) to monitor patients during and after treatment

Patients or physicians may contact the NOB by telephone:

Our nurse practitioners will contact any prospective patient within 24 hours of your call for the purpose of collecting basic information and will instruct them on what information they should send. We require a medical summary, copies of relevant prior radiographic scans (MRI, CT, PET), pathology report, and additional materials as indicated.

With the patient’s permission, we make every effort to keep the patient’s primary physicians fully informed and involved in the care of the patient. Once the consultation is completed, the patient’s NOB physician or NP will contact the primary physician in order to coordinate care and follow-up plans.
