Dr. Howard Fine
Branch Chief and Senior Investigator
Dr. Fine is currently Chief of the Neuro-Oncology Branch at NCI's Center for Cancer Research and the National Institute of Neurologic Disorders and Stroke. He received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, and his M.D. from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York. Dr. Fine completed both his internship and his residency in internal medicine at the Hospital of The University of Pennsylvania. Three years later, he completed his fellowship in medical oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School, Boston. Before joining NIH in 2000, Dr. Fine was Director of both the Neuro-Oncology Disease Center at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and of the Neuro-Oncology Program at the Dana-Farber/Harvard Medical School Cancer Center. His research is dedicated to elucidating the molecular and genetic characteristics of primary brain tumors and primary brain tumor stem cells and translating those findings into the development of new and improved individual patient specific therapies.
Dr. Teri Kreisl
Clinical Investigator
Dr. Kreisl earned her B.S. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1996. In 2001, she completed medical school in New York at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. She spent her intern year and three years of neurology residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital, where she was Chief Resident 2004–2005. Subsequently, she trained in neuro-oncology as a clinical fellow at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where she served as Chief Fellow 2006–2007. Dr. Kreisl joined Neuro-Oncology Branch in July 2007, focusing on the investigation of novel adult therapeutics for patients with gliomas through her role as Principal and Associate Investigator for several clinical trials conducted within NOB. Her research interests also include studying molecular imaging biomarkers of tumor and blood-brain-barrier physiology.
Dr. Fabio Iwamoto
Assistant Clinical Investigator
Dr. Iwamoto completed his internship and residency training in 2006 at New York Presbyterian Hospital - Weill Cornell Medical Center. He then completed subspecialty fellowship training in neuro-oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in 2008 and joined the Neuro-Oncology Branch at NCI as a Staff Clinician. Dr. Iwamoto is currently an Assistant Clinical Investigator at the NOB.
Dr. Joohee Sul
Staff Clinician
Dr. Joohee Sul is a board certified Neurologist with specialty training in neuro-oncology. Dr. Sul completed her residency in neurology at the University of Rochester, followed by a fellowship in neuro-oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Before joining the Neuro-Oncology Branch (NOB) at NIH in 2009, Dr. Sul helped establish the neuro-oncology division at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York from 2007–2009. Currently, Dr. Sul is a Staff Clinician in the NOB.
Cheryl Royce, M.S., C.R.N.P.
Clinical Director
Cheryl Royce is the Clinical Director and the Senior Nurse Practitioner for the Neuro-Oncology Branch (NOB). Ms. Royce obtained her undergraduate degree from Niagara University in New York and went on to obtain her graduate degree from the University of Maryland at Baltimore. Her nursing career began as a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force, where she became certified in critical care through work in intensive care and emergency medicine. Four years later, Ms. Royce took a position in critical care at NIH, where she remained until completing her graduate degree. In October 2000, she became a Nurse Practitioner for the NOB and in 2006 assumed the position of Clinical Director.
